Haddenham Ceilidhs

John Heydon writes...
It has been a fantastic journey. I never thought that after moving to Haddenham in 1971, finding a fantastic Village Hall and making arrangements for a monthly ceilidh to be held, that this would then continue for the next 45 years.
The regular ceilidhs for the first 10 years then became ceilidhs with concerts and then shortly afterwards included an annual festival & craft fayre plus quite a few new year's eve extravaganzas. We were privileged that Hugh Rippon would call for the majority of the ceilidhs with bands varying in style from the Squarecrows, the Bushwhackers & Bullockies Bush Band,  the Albion Band, Brass Monkey, the High-level Ranters and the Old Swan Band.
Concert and Festival guests were just as varied with the Stewarts of Blairgowrie, Vin Garbutt, the Oyster Band, Waterson-Carthy, Spiers and Boden,Tom McConville, Granny’s Attic and more recently, finalists from the New Roots competition for younger performers.
The ceilidhs also included dance display demonstrations from some of the best ritual dance sides throughout the country and further afield.
But all good things have to come to an end. The last regular ceilidh was held in June. My thanks to all those who have helped me make these events so successful and please join us for our finale on December 2.                                           John Heydon
